Walking for Life

by Shannon

Cancer. It’s a word no one likes to say. And they really don’t like to hear it.  I’m a thyroid cancer surviver. I know.

Unfortunately, ignoring it doesn’t mean it doesn’t exist and certainly doesn’t make it go away.  This year, my kids joined my dad’s Family Circle team to walk in the Relay For Life, an all-night walk to raise money for cancer research.  Next Friday night, we’ll all be out marching around the track at a local high school in memory of my sister’s mother-in-law, Mary Wagner, who lost a battle with brain cancer last May.  The fact that this disease stole such a wonderful woman from us far too soon makes me want to strike back.

I don’t like to ask for money.  I don’t like to be asked for money. But sometimes…sometimes something touches us in a way that makes it feel important to at least ask.  Family Circle Kids would love a donation to support wiping out cancer.  Every little bit helps, so please don’t feel you need to donate more than you can afford.

Let’s make this fun!  Out of everyone who donates by Friday night midnight, let me know here that you donated through the link, and I’ll choose two winners…one randomly and the one who makes the highest donation (in case of a tie, I’ll draw a name to break the tie)…to win a copy of VENUS ENVY, mass market or paperback, your choice.

All of us probably know someone touched by cancer, have lost someone to the disease, or have even experienced it ourselves. Let’s do what we can to stamp it out forever!

Thanks!

Shannon
